Credo’s Cache

Each week we will be highlighting important resources. Check back each Friday to see what we have dug up for you. From this week’s cache:

1. Pascal’s Method for Presenting the Christian FaithBy Tim Keller – Keller notes: “Only if their imagination is captured will most people give a fair hearing to the strong arguments for the truth of Christianity. Let’s appeal to heart and imagination as well as to reason as we speak publicly about our faith in Jesus.”

2. Since Jesus Ate With Sinners, Do I Have to Eat at the Strip Club’s Buffet?By Joe Carter – Carter notes: “If, like the Pharisees, you want to bind the conscience of all believers to a standard that is difficult, if not impossible, to support by Scripture, the least you can do is to argue for its broad application. Tell us that the white baker is not only obligated to serve a same-sex wedding but that the African-American baker is obligated to bake a cake for the Aryan Nation’s national convention.”

3. Does Sanctification Require Effort?By Michael Kruger – Kruger says: “There has been a quite a vigorous debate in Reformed denominations over the last number of years regarding the nature of sanctification and the role of our own efforts in that process.”

4. The Jesus Lens, or the Jesus Tea-Strainer?By Andrew Wilson -Wilson says: “When all is said and done, the biblical Jesus cannot be squeezed thorough the fine mesh of the progressive Jesus tea-strainer. Given the choice, we’re probably better off with the biblical one.”

5. Jesus and TithingBy Ray Ortlund – Ortlund notes: “Tithing, then, is an obedient thing to do.  But we should not think of it as heroic and sacrificial and impressive.  Tithing is Obedience 101.  It is entry-level discipleship.  When we tithe, we should be thinking, ‘Well, this is for starters.  And I grow from here.’  So let’s tithe.  But let’s also press boldly into the demanding questions of justice and mercy and faithfulness, trusting and obeying Jesus no matter what the cost.”

Matt Manry is the Director of Discipleship at Life Bible Church in Canton, Georgia. He is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Religion at Reformed Theological Seminary and a Masters of Arts in Christian and Classical Studies from Knox Theological Seminary. He blogs regularly at gospelglory.net.
